MARK O. HATFIELD WILDERNESS

The Mark O. Hatfield
Wilderness Area is located in Northwest Oregon along the Columbia River Gorge.
It was originally designated as the Columbia River Wilderness, but was renamed
in 1996 in honor of Oregon Senator Mark O. Hatfield. It sits within the Columbia River Gorge Recreation Area and the Mt. Hood National Forest. It is managed completely by the National Forest Service
but different part of the wilderness are managed by the two perspective
divisions of the forest service. It covers 65,822 acres of land and is
especially noted for its Old-Growth Douglas Fir forests and for the many
stunning waterfalls it contains.
